It's an interesting gamble. In my opinion, execution in today's healthcare IT environment is, and always will be, the name of the game. From one vantage point you have a hospital IT company previously run by Cap Gemini consultants limping along for the last decade on legacy hospital applications while trying to modernize their offering. They purchased several ambulatory EMR offerings and have busily but unsuccessfully attempted to integrate those with their current offering. On the other side is company struggling to integrate their now 5(?) EMR's and 3 PM systems. The combined entity will have 8+ EMR's???? Thus far there's painfully little evidence their EMR integration strategy is working. Lacking numerous examples of integration execution, will the marketplace believe they can start now? Allscripts leadership on numerous investor calls touted KLAS as the "Consumer Reports" of the healthcare industry. Apparently that messaging was only important when KLAS ratings were good as their customer satisfaction trends post Misys merger are now significantly down across all EMR lines. It appears this is a hybrid "Field of Dreams" strategy, instead of "build it and they will come"; Allscripts' thinking is "buy it and they will come". There are two things for certain: 1. Look for Allscripts' marketing machine to have their CEO in front of any camera available and 2. Mr. Lawrie's laughing all the way to the bank. Watch for similar announcments in the next 90 days as industry consolidation is much needed.
